Mommy and Colette

These Mommy and Me sessions are definitely becoming my favorite, they’re so precious and gives me all the feels.

We took these around Mother’s day this year which meant May Gray in California, so the only time the lighting was good was during sunset which meant Colette’s bedtime. We thought since she loves being at the beach and having her dad around to make her laugh, it would be fine. Boy were we wrong! Don’t mess with babies and their sleep schedules.

Colette’s normally the happiest baby and a natural in front of the camera but right when we were about to start, she shook her head as soon as her toes touched the sand. She only wanted to be held and signed for some milk. The wind didn’t help either she was making chattering noises and being quite dramatic bundled in her blankie,  you can see in some of the pictures she was not having it but somehow I find it so adorable and kind of funny.

Felt so bad that she was cold and wasn’t having a good time,  so we wrapped up after 10- 15 minutes. Although, we didn’t get many shots of her alone, the few that we do have, I absolutely love! Having an amazing photographer is really everything.

Instead of taking pictures, our family enjoyed watching the sunset together and then headed out to a relaxing dinner near by. Its always these sweet moments with my family that I’ll cherish forever and what I think about every time I look at these images. 🙂

Enchanted 1st Birthday

Our baby girl turns 1! I wanted something very special for her big celebration and while planning her party it started to feel as if I were planning her wedding. A beautiful photoshoot was in the order, which has the same importance to me as engagement photos are for weddings.

She’s our little princess, so naturally I went with a fairytale themed 1st birthday party called, Colette’s Enchanted ONEderland. This shoot was a preview to her party and anything enchanted to me meant outdoor forest “magical” setting. The problem was she’s still a baby and needed to nap every 2 hours so we couldn’t go to an actual forest. Luckily for us, there’s a park down the street from our house that we take her to all the time and I just knew it would work.

Once the location was set, next up was wardrobe! Styling outfits has always been my favorite part! Hunting for the perfect little dress for this princess of mine wasn’t easy but when I stumbled upon her dress I just knew it was the one! It has a champagne gold sequined top and a full feather and tulle skirt, which sort of resembles my wedding gown in a way. I still swoon over her pretty dress every time I look at it. Once I found her dress the rest all came together.

For the family part of the shoot I wanted everyone to look effortless and not over styled. My husband’s tailored navy suit and a wool cable sweater really complimented Colette’s gold and ivory dress. I went with a deep red colored dress to add to a winter feel. My makeup was darker then usual, I decided on berry stained lips and dark smokey eyes to add contrast to Colette’s innocent and pure look.

I kept the props minimal, just a couple vintage crowns and fresh hydrangeas was all that was needed nothing too busy. A lot of the details were hand-made because I wanted everything to be very special and memorable. I also baked her cake for the first time!

We were all so excited to see her to smash the cake the entire time but our little lady is truly a princess, she cried the minute the frosting got on her fingers! It was her first time tasting anything sweet and her reaction was just the funniest, she hated it and wanted nothing to do with it. She started whining and on the verge of crying when we tried to get her to smash her cake, so no cake smashing after all. Bummer! It was also nap time for her so I decided to throw some “fairy dust” on her cute little feet right before she fell asleep.

It was so much fun watching her take pictures, we just love her so much and couldn’t wait for her big party!

Maria (who is also my new sister-in-law) wanted something soft and romantic for her rustic themed wedding. I am a huge fan of soft makeup for outdoor weddings, so I played up the eyes and did lots of contouring so that the features shows up in photos. I blended everything out with soft shades of pinks and peaches so that the makeup looks pretty and subtle which works for both morning and evening.

Maria’s big day started at 9:00 am for her Chinese Tea Ceremony, so we started the makeup at 5 am and no one needed any touch ups throughout the entire day! I just made sure the girls reapply their lips after they eat, the makeup last until midnight! The wedding venue was straight from a wedding magazine, such a pretty wedding!

I had an amazing time getting Heather and her bridal party ready for her big day. I walked into their suite at The Lofts at the Hilton Gaslamp, San Diego and everyone was just sitting around relaxed in their cute robes, it was the first time I came into such a large bridal party that was so calm and organized. Heather is so detail oriented everything about her wedding was perfect and absolutely gorgeous! She was so sweet and easy to work with she knew exactly what she wanted and we also did a trial run before, bronze eyes with smoked out liner and peachy pinks on cheeks and lips. Her bridal party went with different shades of lavender shadows but had more dramatic smokey eyes. Everyone looked absolutely stunning, such a beautiful wedding!

Before & After, Linh

Linh wanted very dark smokey eyes, so I used MAC’s carbon eye shadows blended with Saddle eye shadow to create a softer dark smokey eye. She wanted simple hair so I gave her some loose waves and and teased it for some volume. We were both very happy with the finished look.
